The solar emissions are received with the wide-band, droopy, active dipole shown in the figure below.

A wide-band fat dipole is simulated by 
12mm brass tubing, it droops downward
by 45º in order to provide azimuthal
symmetry in its gain pattern.

A preamplifier in the small box at the
feed point buffers the impedance
variation of the dipole to provide wide
band operation over the observed
frequency range.
