In the data
illustrated below, the raw data have been especially
processed to remove most of the RFI. |

The most common
type of solar burst is the fast-drift, type III burst
generated by streams of electrons propagating out through
the solar corona at nearly the speed of light. These bursts
drift from high to low frequencies in less than one minute.
Several type III bursts are shown in the next figure.

Slow-drift,
type II bursts are generated when shock waves propagate
through the corona at speeds of 500 to 1500 km/sec. An example of
a complex Type II burst is shown in the next figure. |
